Jester: Protect the Luck Window, Then Scale It

A Jester route for players who want a readable crit window: preserve Novice's Luck, make Justice Heart repeatable, and only add conditional damage after the trigger is stable. Reviewed for patch 1.0.466.

Needs testing

QUICK ANSWER

Protect the luck state first, then scale the crit window only when the trigger survives real rooms.

  • Preserve Novice's Luck before greedier damage
  • Use reload and safe uptime to repeat the window
  • Load the route, then pivot when the condition breaks

DECISION LAYER

Protect the luck state before asking it to carry damage.

Jester's route is a protected damage window. The build only pays when Novice's Luck survives long enough for Justice Heart and crit support to matter.

WEAPON DECISION

Recommended weapons, with a fallback

Use the first weapon as the route anchor. The other two are pivots for the run you actually get.

START HEREVintage Musket

Why it fits. A readable five-round crit anchor for the protected window.

Tradeoff. Reload gaps can break the luck window unless uptime is supported.

Why it fits. Useful when a deliberate burst rhythm is safer than continuous fire.

Tradeoff. Its pause requirement can fight the timing of Jester's damage window.

OPTION 3Ember Spark

Why it fits. A simple fire fallback when elemental support is already present.

Tradeoff. Do not add a second element just to preserve a high-rarity offer.

RUN TIMELINE

Early, mid, and late choices

The right item changes as the run moves from establishing a loop to protecting a clear.

Early

Keep Novice's Luck intact.

Look for: Ray of Luck, safe movement, and Reload Speed before ambitious crit scaling.

Checkpoint: If contact damage ends the luck state repeatedly, damage upgrades are premature.

Mid

Make the protected window repeatable.

Look for: Divine Justice, Fire Rate, reload support, and a weapon you can aim safely.

Checkpoint: A shorter but reliable window beats a larger window you cannot preserve.

Late

Scale the successful window.

Look for: The Emperor, Critical Chance, Critical Damage, and survival insurance.

Checkpoint: Only take Hero or another conditional payoff after the trigger is already reliable.

MATCHUP TEST

Boss damage and crowd clear are different jobs

Boss

Boss rooms reward keeping the luck state through a full damage window. Use crit payoff after the target pattern is learned, not as a substitute for movement.

Crowd

For packs, value safe uptime and fire-rate coverage. A crowd-control or reliable elemental weapon can outperform a pure crit line when contact risk is high.

RNG RECOVERY

What to do when the core item is missing

If this happens

The luck state is unstable or the crit package never appears.

Take this instead

Take Constant Luck, reload support, and reliable weapon damage; let Jester be a safe sustained route until the window is proven.

Do not do this

Do not stack Critical Damage around a condition that is already ending every few seconds.

KEEP MOVING

Turn the advice into the next decision

Search the exact item, compare its trigger, then load this route into the Planner. The goal is a useful next pick, not a perfect shopping list.

Needs testing

Jester's skill relationships and item identities are in the current planner data. The route is a practical hypothesis rather than a measured clear-speed ranking. If the luck state breaks before the damage window starts, take the safer fallback and keep the run alive.
