Final Shot Builds: Make the Magazine Position Matter

Reviewed for Patch 1.0.479Last updated: August 4, 2026

Build around the last bullet, the first bullet, or a full-magazine rotation. Small magazines and reload timing matter more than a rare item name, and the exact damage ranking is Needs Testing.

Core mechanism

Final Shot and First Shot effects care about where a bullet sits in the magazine. Flame Round is explicitly a Final Shot relic, Charged Ring is built for First Shot setups, and The Magician turns First Shot into a Magic Bullet. This route wins by repeating a short magazine cycle, not by collecting every magazine effect.

Best Hunter to start with

Current starting point

Jester

Jester already has a protected crit-window route in the current guide, so he is a useful Hunter for testing magazine-position payoffs. Whether his luck engine beats Marcus's extra-shot route here is Needs Testing.

These pages use the current Planner data and patch records. Any strength claim without a public damage test is marked Needs Testing.

How to start early

Start with a weapon whose reload timing you can read. Vintage Musket is the stable anchor; Lionheart is a separate rotation experiment because emptying its magazine amplifies the next damaging skill.

Mid-run conditions

Choose either a Final Shot line or a First Shot line as the main job, then add reload support. The Magician, Flame Round, and Charged Ring should not all be treated as equal cores when the weapon cannot cycle them often.

When the core item does not appear

If the position-based relics do not appear, keep Jester's luck and direct crit route with Magician's Hat or survival support. A normal firing loop is a better fallback than waiting through unstable rooms for one Final Shot item.

Boss and room-clear performance

Boss

Charged Ring and Lionheart both describe boss-facing payoff, but their rotation cost is real. Boss damage and the value of an empty-magazine cycle are Needs Testing without a public dummy.

Room clear

Flame Round's piercing projectile and The Magician's transformed-target clause can help specific rooms, but a slow reload window can leave packs alive. Keep direct room coverage as the first fallback.

Common mispicks and conflicts

Large magazines, charge weapons, and slow reloads reduce how often Final Shot or First Shot occurs. The reversed Magician can empty a magazine on a misfire according to its current description, so it is not a free upgrade.

Patches that changed this route

Patch 1.0.479 changed Battle Skill and Lightning-related payoffs that can sit beside a magazine route. Patch 1.0.466 added trigger caps and changed several Transmutation items. Recheck any old guide that treats a single final-bullet effect as a universal multiplier.
