Blood Moon has arrived: test the mode before trusting a route

Reviewed for Patch 1.0.503Last updated: August 24, 2026

A first-pass Blood Moon guide for the new difficulty, its golden weapon rewards, and the failure points worth recording in early runs.

QUICK ANSWER

Use this page to diagnose the pressure point, then test the next pickup with the run's risk level visible.

  • Name the failure point before changing the whole build
  • Protect a working engine when the run is already fragile
  • Use the Finder or Planner to test one change at a time

Update 8.5 adds Blood Moon, golden versions of carried Weapons and Weapon Parts, and new difficulty achievements. The official notes do not give a complete enemy or boss rulebook, so use the first runs to collect evidence instead of turning one modifier into a permanent build rule.

Check these before the run

  • Use the Training Room first to check whether your damage actually reaches targets during the window you care about.
  • If the starting Battle Scar is a bad fit, reroll it before building around a route that depends on it.
  • If you die before the engine starts, take reliable survival or a shorter setup.
  • If the engine starts but cannot finish, add uptime, coverage, or a boss-facing payoff.
  • If the trigger is too conditional, replace one link rather than stacking a fourth conditional piece.
  • Use the run decision tool for route discipline, and use the Item Encyclopedia for in-run reference rather than mixing up the two jobs.

The official notes confirm the mode and rewards, but not the full enemy modifiers, boss patterns, or clear-rate picture. Record those in-game before turning them into site-wide advice.
