Core mechanism
Dark Ice and Ice Shatterer are both tagged as Frost weapons that build Freeze for Shatter routes. Hanged Man's Rope converts each Shatter into Final Damage, while the current Frost Fist entry adds resistance reduction and Frost Resonance. The interaction is clear in the data; its exact boss ceiling is Needs Testing.
Best Hunter to start with
Current starting point
Marcus
Marcus is the cleanest starting Hunter because his current core tags are extra-shot and frequency. That makes repeated Freeze attempts easy to read. The claim that he is the best Shatter Hunter is Needs Testing.
Evidence boundary
These pages use the current Planner data and patch records. Any strength claim without a public damage test is marked Needs Testing.
Recommended weapons, skills, relics, and Tarot
How to start early
Take a Frost weapon first and keep Marcus's extra-shot engine readable. If the first rooms are not stable, a reliable weapon and reload support are worth more than waiting for a second Shatter relic.
Mid-run conditions
Add a second Frost or Shatter-related relic only after Freeze is happening often enough to pay for the slot. Frost Fist's current text rewards Frost relic count, while Hanged Man's Rope needs actual Shatter triggers.
When the core item does not appear
If no Frost weapon appears, keep Vintage Musket and the Marcus extra-shot route as a physical fallback. Do not label the run Shatter until Freeze is actually being produced. The fallback's comparative strength is Needs Testing.
Boss and room-clear performance
Freeze can create a safer boss window, and Frost Fist has a current boss-facing resistance effect. Exact kill-time improvement is Needs Testing because the game has no public damage dummy.
The Frost weapon entries are explicitly tagged for crowd use, so Shatter has a data-backed room-control case. Whether it clears packs faster than a direct volley route is Needs Testing.
Common mispicks and conflicts
Changing away from Frost abandons Freeze progress. Frost Fist also asks for Smite or Critical Hits, and Hanged Man's Rope is idle when Shatter never happens. Do not keep all three conditions in the loadout unless the run is already producing them.
Patches that changed this route
Patch 1.0.479 changed Frost Fist's resistance and Frost Resonance text. Patch 1.0.466 changed Frost destination interactions such as Eye of Deep Winter and added trigger limits. Re-read those effects before copying an older Frost route.
